Investigator Weapons 3

My latest book Investigator Weapons 3 for use with Call of Cthulhu in the Gaslight Era is finally out!

This book covers firearms and some other weapons in the period roughly between 1870 and 1910, from derringers to machine guns. As usual you will find all the relevant Call of Cthulhu stats, but also detailed descriptions and illustrations throughout, plus hints about how to use them against Man or Mythos. There are sections on firearm law, inasfar as appropriate, on combat rules, and much, much more. Whether you investigate by Gaslight or Down Darker Trails, this book should provide you with lots of inspiration and support.

Weapons in Call of Cthulhu, Seventh Edition

Call of Cthulhu, Seventh Edition, has made a lot of detail changes to the weapons available to investigators. Focusing on my particular interests and insights, I went through the Keeper Rulebook to check what works and what does not.

Many of the mistakes were already present in the Call of Cthulhu, Fifth Edition, and Call of Cthulhu, Sixth Edition, but it would have been a good opportunity to deal with them. Others are unique to the new edition.

Martial Arts: Sherlock

I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, and the modern retelling offered by the BBC’s Sherlock (2010-) is great. I am not too keen on the actual stories, but the chemistry between the main characters, all of them great actors, is brilliant, as are many of the details. The following scene from the episode “His Last Vow” (Sherlock #3.3) shows an often underplayed side of Dr John Watson. The good doctor has always been a man of action, but he is seldom allowed to prove it in the various dramatizations. In this brief but hilariously funny scene we are reminded that Watson is a former British Army Captain with three years’ service in Afghanistan. The specifics warrant a detailed analysis in GURPS terms.
